Call me daft, but wouldn’t all of these workplace accommodations for neurodivergent employees actually benefit everyone?
π Clear agendas sent out well in advance for all meetings
π Clear and unambiguous language used in all internal communications
π Timely and specific information provided about upcoming changes
π Quiet spaces and sensory friendly environments in all offices
π Flexible working policies that genuinely are flexible
π Scheduled meeting-free and uninterrupted periods of working time
π Closed captions used on video calls and all video-conference meetings recorded
π Ability to submit questions ahead of or after meetings as required
π Detailed information provided about physical work locations i.e. maps and video tours of office / conference locations
π Normalising the ‘hand-raised’ feature on conference calls to help with turn taking and asking questions
π No fluorescent lighting (because surely this isn’t just an us thing, right?)
So again, call me daft (but don’t, please, because the RSD is real!) but couldn’t we all benefit from these?
I’ll admit that a couple might be neither here nor there for neurotypical colleagues (again, the fluorescent lights? They really don’t bother you?!) but they surely wouldn’t cause them any issues. And they would have a massive positive impact on those of us who are autistic, ADHDers and other neurodivergent folks.
Because inclusivity benefits everybody.
And most of these really aren’t that hard.
